Blackmagic launches Pocket 6K Pro

Posted on Feb 18, 2021 by Pro Moviemaker

When it was launched, Blackmagic’s original pocket-sized 6K offering was fairly groundbreaking, packing massive resolution and a broader array of pro specs into a body roughly the size of a DSLR. Now, the new 6K Pro has taken things even further.

One stand-out feature is a 5in tilting touchscreen LCD, with 1500nit brightness for HDR monitoring directly on camera. The addition of internal 2-, 4- and 6-stop ND filters also opens the camera up as a more realistic option within high-end professional workflows.

Inside, the 6K Pro features a larger Super 35 sensor offering 13-stops of dynamic range, a dual-native ISO range up to ISO 25,600 and the addition of generation 5 colour science, seen in the URSA Mini Pro 12K. The camera records 10-bit Apple ProRes files in all formats up to 4K, with the option of 12-bit Blackmagic Raw in all formats up to 6K.

The final top line additions include an optional electronic viewfinder and a new battery. The OLED EVF displays critical information and attaches via a single connector. The larger NP-F570 battery in the 6K Pro replaces the 6K’s LP-E6 cell, and there’s the option of an additional battery grip, too. When needed, the included AC plug pack can power the camera and charge the battery simultaneously.

The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro is available now at $2495. For more information, visit the Blackmagic website.
